My name is Mrs. Dyer and I teach 3rd grade at Edison Elementary School in Sunshine, FL.
I have been teaching ever since I was a little girl when I set up my dolls and stuffed animals in my bedroom for their daily 'lessons'. I also taught my younger brother how to read and am told that I also 'potty trained' my little sister! :)
In addition to my teacher role, I'm the mother to two sons, age 13 and 16, and the wife of a wonderful husband who also happens to be my best friend. We enjoy outdoor activities like hiking and swimming and kayaking. In addition, our family loves to travel during our vacations.
My teaching philosophy has evolved over the years and I would anticipate that it will continue to grow as my experience in teaching and learning also develops. Some solid values that are unchangeable are the focus on the individual student's needs which I try to address both in and out of the classroom and the balance between assessment, curriculum and instruction.
Additionally, I believe that a child's potential for learning is best facilitated by the constructivist model with a focus on social learning. If we learn as a result of experiences and interaction, then the classroom should be filled with opportunities for such interactions - not only in the form of activities with things, technology, and people, but also in the understanding and familiarity of self.
